About our farmer in Kagoshima, Japan (USDA Organic)
Farms our: Sencha 1/Sencha 3/ Matcha 3/ Matcha Sticks/ Gyokuro 4
This farm is located at around 1,600 feet above sea level. Its geological location is truly unique for a few reasons:
All the surrounding farms are also certified organic and/or in the process of becoming certified organic which means no pesticide transfer!
A high amino acid profile as a result of the high pressure weather that exists in the environment the tea is grown in. This high pressure weather means a lot of mist, which means natural shade and moisture for the tea leaves, therefore, protecting the leaves from too much sun.
Mineral rich soil from numerous volcanic eruptions thousands of years ago. Mineral rich spring water is abundant and is used to water the tea!
Deeper roots. Our farmer allows the plants to mature twice as long as most tea farmers in Japan to ensure the roots grow deep enough to feed themselves minerals and groundwater. This increases the nutrient density of the tea leaves when you drink them.
Believe it or not, certified organic allows for organic chemical fertilizers! Our farmer does not use these, instead he makes his own all natural fertilizer from wild flowers, oak, soil and leaves from the forests in the surrounding mountains.
Our farmer uses hands on labor and a high powered air blower to remove bugs. The air blower blows away leaves, bugs and debris from the tea plants. Then, the workers circle back and blast with high powered mist to remove any remaining bugs or debris. Weeds are removed the good old fashioned way…by hand!

Surrounded by ancient trees, mountains, spring fed streams and rivers, this farm works with all of nature's elements to create the flavor profiles that exist within these teas.
The mineral rich clay soil and spring water make for a truly unique style of Gyokuro and Matcha.
All Superb Tea Co. teas that come from this farm are hand to hand processed. This means they’re handpicked, rolled, steamed, ground and packaged the traditional way. This is very personal. You can feel their love, dedication and care when you drink Superb Tea Co tea.
